Harvey Weinstein’s lawyers submitted a bail application to a higher court on Friday asking him to be released on $2 million bond
The convicted rapist is arguing in his bid to be released that throughout his film career, he helped tackle ‘human struggles’ including sexual assault
He ‘shined a spotlight on a myriad of human struggles’ including ‘sexual assault on campus [in] ‘The Hunting Ground,” according to the bail application
The court papers also claim he is a ‘force in philanthropy’ who has raised millions of dollars for various causes and cite his ailing health
Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison for rape and sexual assault in his landmark #MeToo trial in New York
His lawyers are preparing to file an appeal with the Appellate Division First Department to overturn his conviction
Weinstein is also facing 11 charges of sexual assault involving five women in California, after six new charges were filed this month
