Ghislaine Maxwell Juror “Lied”: Reports

Ghislaine Maxwell Juror :Two news organisations report they’ve seen purported evidence a juror in the Ghislaine Maxwell trial lied to the court about his status as a sexual assault victim.

The 60-year-old Brit’s sex-trafficking conviction, is less than one week old, “may not be salvageable”, legal experts told The Telegraph and Fox News.

Update January 8 2022: News agency Reuters has new information about retrials and experts they spoke to said there was a high bar set for such hearings.

It said: “Not all instances of jurors failing to disclose information are significant enough to merit a new trial, experts said, noting that cases where verdicts were overturned largely involved jurors who deliberately omitted information to try to get on the panel.

The system does not favor overturning verdicts. We value finality,” said Laurie Levenson, a professor at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, adding that the judge has “broad discretion” in this case.”

Two jurors have so far publicly disclosed to the media past sexual abuse that they might not have included on pretrial questionnaires.

Attorneys for the former longtime coconspirator of disgraced professional black Jeffrey Epstein are preparing to seek a new trial on the grounds that Maxwell’s first was fundamentally unfair.

The Independent and The Daily Mail reported one of the 12 jurors who sat on the case told them he himself had been sexually abused as a child.

“He did not fill in that form correctly,” a person familiar with the case told Fox News on the condition of anonymity to discuss the ongoing litigation.

“He was asked point blank, and he said, that isn’t the case. Obviously, it is, from his own words.”

The source said Maxwell’s lawyers were seeking new trial materials from prosecutors.

Josie Ensor of The Telegraph said: “The Telegraph has independent confirmation this is true.”

The juror, Scotty David, said he told fellow jurors that, like some of Epstein’s victims, he had been abused as a child.

Maxwell’s lawyers maintained this could be grounds for a new trial.

Mr David said earlier this week about the four main prosecution witnesses: “I just felt really compelled to try and speak up for them.”

“I know what happened when I was sexually abused. I remember the colour of the carpet, the walls. Some of it can be replayed like a video,” he said he told the jury, according to The Independent. “But I can’t remember all the details, there are some things that run together.”

He told the news agency Reuters: “When I shared that, they were able to sort of come around on, they were able to come around on the memory aspect of the sexual abuse.”
