Maxwell Can’t Block Release of Racy Testimony, Court Says – Bloomberg

Ghislaine Maxwell can’t prevent the release of a 2016 deposition she argued would prevent her from getting a fair trial on charges that she participated in a sex-trafficking scheme with former boyfriend Jeffrey Epstein.

A federal appeals court in Manhattan on Monday refused to overturn a decision by a federal judge who authorized release of a deposition from a defamation lawsuit brought by one of her alleged victims, Virginia Giuffre.

The psychology behind taking dirty money from Jeffrey Epstein

The psychology behind taking dirty money from Jeffrey Epstein »

People have a deep-seated aversion to morally tainted money, but also a strong temptation for the reward. When people take dirty money, this inner conflict is resolved with rationalization. And the power of rationalization is so strong that people will engage in elaborate cognitive gymnastics not to see the negative ramifications of what they have just done. Our behavior will shapeshift to protect our benefactor.

Research on conflicts of interest shows that, when confronted with the possibility that their benefactor is morally dubious, people will look the other way, selectively examine the evidence in front of them, and generally focus on whatever slim evidence remains that their benefactor has redeeming qualities. As Upton Sinclair observed, it is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it.

Epstein Assistant Blows Off Steam While Dancing on Bar

During the day, Lesley Taylor Groff allegedly organised, supervised and paid Jeffrey Epstein’s young victims but on one evening in 2009 she was photographed dancing on a bar decorated with bras.

These recently uncovered images of Epstein’s longtime assistant came as the US Virgin Islands this week demanded Groff produce documents relating to the dead pedophile’s abuse of young women.

Attorney-General Denise George ordered Groff to hand over the names of every masseuse, every woman who flew to Little St James Island and all individuals who lived in one of Jeffrey Epstein’s properties.

The US Virgin Islands also wants an accounting of the money paid to Epstein’s masseuses.

The requests made to Groff by the US Virgin Islands

The photos of Groff were taken in New York in December 2009 during a visit to the city by her mother, Diana Wright.

The mother-of-one spent the evening at the Coyote Ugly-themed saloon bar with her mother and step-father Randy Wright.

It’s alleged by the US Virgin Islands officials that Groff is part of Epstein’s criminal conspiracy.

She lives in a Republican foothold in Connecticut and donated $2600 in 2014 to a Democrat congresswoman who represents the US Virgin Islands.

Groff handed $2600 to Representative Stacey Plaskett. This is the politician who faced media heat about returning her Jeffrey Epstein donations.

Lesley Groff came into Epstein’s world as a secretary. She said in a 2005 interview, she would answer Epstein’s phone and manage his schedule, which led to a bond between the two.

She was quoted as saying they were “mind-melded” and Groff spent at least two decades working for the sex offender.

Groff is listed as a coconspirator, along with Sarah Kellen and Nadia Marcinko, in the controversial 2008 Epstein non-prosecution deal.

Her name also features in allegations in several civil cases.

Epstein survivor Sarah Ransome told The New York Times, Groff communicated directly with her, “repeating Mr. Epstein’s promises to help her obtain a fashion degree.”

She also monitored the “rules” the teens and young women were meant to comply with while being trafcked by Epstein, court documents said.

Her name crops up in several other civil court cases. The most recent claims made public are by Jane Doe 1001, where Groff is mentioned as a coconspirator.

In a statement sent to TheWrap, Groff’s attorney Michael Bachner denied Lesley had engaged in any misconduct when she worked for Epstein.

“As an executive assistant to Epstein, Lesley worked as part of a professional staff that included in-house attorneys, accountants, an office manager and other office staff,” he said.

At no time during Lesley’s employment with Epstein did she ever engage in any misconduct,” Mr Bachner said.

She is now a mum in Connecticut, popping out for Pilates and living her best life.
It seems Lesley has gone on and lived her life since the Epstein allegations emerged in Florida 2005.

Was Epstein Secretary A Back Door for Secret Political Donations?

Why would a personal assistant from a Republican foothold in Connecticut donate $2600 to a Democrat congresswoman who represents the US Virgin Islands?

Jeffrey Epstein’s secretary Lesley Taylor Groff did just that in 2014 when she handed over $2600 to Representative Stacey Plaskett. This is the politician who faced media heat about returning her Jeffrey Epstein donations.

Plaskett told CNBC last year; “My litmus test for accepting campaign contributions has been based on whether the donor’s money was made legally or by ill-gotten means and that the contributor will not ask of me or my Congressional office for any special favors. All my contributions have passed that test. In this case however, I am uncomfortable having received money from someone who has been accused of these egregious actions multiple times,” said Plaskett, who represents the U.S. Virgin Islands in the House as a delegate.

By 2014, Epstein was toxic due to his jail stint and subsequent donations.

Lesley Taylor Groff has been accused many times in civil court cases of playing a crucial role in Epstein’s sex trafficking operation.

She has also been listed as one of Epstein’s coconspirators on papers from the controversial immunity deal struck before Epstein went to jail in Florida.

In a statement sent to TheWrap, Groff’s attorney Michael Bachner denied she had engaged in any misconduct when she worked for Epstein.

“As an executive assistant to Epstein, Lesley worked as part of a professional staff that included in-house attorneys, accountants, an office manager and other office staff,” he said.

Jeffrey Epstein wasn’t the only one in his sphere who donated to politicians.

One thing we know about this case is it is also about politics – the politics of gender, the politics of income and the politicisation of the justice system.

Thanks to Open Secrets we found records of political donations made by:

  • Ghislaine Maxwell
  • Sarah Kellen
  • Lesley Groff
  • Brian Vickers (Sarah’s husband)
  • Daniel Groff (Lesley’s husband)
  • Eileen Guggenheim
Was the 2007 donation made while Lesley worked for Epstein?

These donations could mean nothing. They might lead to some insights. We don’t allege anything inappropriate here but this blog is a record of the Epstein case.

They could mean nothing or everything.
